Spring has sprung

Out and about
It’s finally getting warm enough to get outside without bundling up. We asked Chicago Parent readers to share their kids’ favorite outdoor activities at ChicagoParent.com’s discussion forums.

"My kids love to jump, so my best investment was their big trampoline with a secure net, of course. They would put any kangaroo to shame. They jump in the cold (they just shovel off the snow), they jump in the heat (I put a sprinkler under it). It is like the mailman’s motto—rain, sleet, snow, darkness or heat—it doesn’t stop them."

Janice Spitz

"My kids’ favorite thing to do, which I do believe came from me, is to go swimming. We are at the pool from the moment it opens until our bodies have become water logged. So we are the ‘Nemo’ family."

Stacy Maffit

"My daughter’s favorite thing to do outside is ride her bike. Almost every afternoon when it’s nice out, she rides her bike and I walk to the park near our house. We try to spend as much time outside as possible."

Heather Spring

"Anything (my kids) can do outside they love: swimming, soccer, baseball, playing with the sidewalk chalk, riding their bikes. Once it is spring and they are able to get outside, they want to do it all."

ILona Vida

"Our three children love to camp out in our backyard. We put up the tent, have a campfire and come inside only to use the bathroom. Our dog stays outside with us, too. It’s a fun way to go camping without even leaving the neighborhood."
