Get out there and play

Although you may not have a great love for scaly and slithery creatures in your house, that doesn’t mean your kids won’t enjoy seeing and touching them for a few hours this weekend at Reptile Fest, held at the University of Illinois Chicago Campus, Physical Education Building, 901 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Your kids will be able to feed, touch, hold and take photos with snakes, turtles, alligators, lizards and a few other amphibians and reptiles at this fest, hosted by the Chicago Herpetological Society.

A few local conservation groups will bring rare animals from their private collections. And don’t worry, this fest will not make your home become a zoo or animal sanctuary—there are no animal sales here, so no chances for any impromptu pet purchases.

Admission to Reptile Fest is $8, $6 for children 3-11. For more information or discount coupons, visit the Web site, www.reptilefest.com.

You don't have to be an astronaut to visit the moon. Through the month of April, five Chicago Parent readers will have a chance to win family five packs each week to go see "Fly Me to the Moon" at Adler Planetarium, 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, as well as general admission to the planetarium. To win, we'll post a different question to answer here every week. For this week, we want to know what your least favorite bug is and why. Post your answer on our discussion board, then e-mail your answer, name and your Chicago Parent ID to e-dition@chicagoparent.com. You must post and e-mail us for your answer to be counted. We will not release your information-it is purely for contact purposes. Some answers may appear in Chicago Parent magazine. Winners will be chosen at random and may have no affiliation with Wednesday Journal Inc. or its employees.
