Christmas Carol

This contest is now closed.

Halloween may have been just last week, but we're already thinking about Christmas. Don't say "Bah! Humbug!" quite yet. This is more than just presents and carols, "Disney's A Christmas Carol 3D" hits theaters this Friday. To get in the holiday spirit, we've teamed up with Classic Cinemas to offer one lucky Chicago Parent reader a family five-pack to see the film. For more information, visit classiccinemas.com.
To win, tell us what your family does to beat the winter chills.

Disney a X-Mas Carol

By Aracely Carrillo on Friday, November 11, 2011

To beat the winter chills my boys and I stay connected with our family and friends by visiting one family per week. Usually the adults chat over hot cocoa or coffee, while the kiddies are playing with each other and running around until they are pooped. We also try to visit fun places like the musuems and libraries......there's always something new you could learn. And lastly, when it's to cold to go out, my boys and I enjoy baking and cooking together. We'll also make edible playdoh, using different cookie cutters to make the shapes and then eat them. Usually we'll do some crafts, play board games and play the wii or xbox.

What winter chills?

How Our Family Beats the Winter Chills

By Lanita Schumacher on Friday, November 11, 2011

Our family does a lot of things to beat the winter chills. We like to snuggle under blankets, eat popcorn and watch a movie. We like to play games like Whoonu, Connect 4X4, Cadoo and Julius! (a matching tile game). We play Wii, especially the bowling game. And when it's just too cold to go outside for a traditional snowball fight, we have our own inside with rolled up socks. It's usually the boys against the girls. And we play throughout the house.

J-bird's Cocoa nest

By heidi teope on Friday, November 11, 2011

We build a nest with as many blankets as possible inside our playhouse tent. Then we snuggle up together like birds in a nest while drinking our hot cocoas, hot cider and snacks. J, my 3-1/2 year old daughter makes the best hot cocoas. ;8}. One time, we made hot cocoas for everyone in our block. We bundled up and walked to each house to give them their hot cocoas. Fun times!

Can't beat the chills if the heart is not warm.

By Nicole Chojnacki on Friday, November 11, 2011

To beat the winter chills my daughter and I enjoy filling the house with warm smells of freshly baked cookies and desserts then enjoy dropping them off to some of our elderly residents and family along with other canned goods. Not only did we warm our house but also warmed the hearts of others. In the end their smile is like a warm blanket to us.

Disney's A Christmas Carol 3-D

By Faith Mantooth on Friday, November 11, 2011

We basically have a picnic in the family room by the fireplace - we pull out the sleeping bags, place them on the floor and make hot cocoa, the old-fashioned way with the Hershey's Cocoa mix that you make on the stove, add a heap of whipping cream and then we all gather together, including the dogs and watch movies.

Winter Chills? Not for MY family!

By Roberta Mazeikas on Friday, November 11, 2011

We beat the Winter Chills by making a wonderful meal together, usually starting with home made soup. Then, we make a fire in the fireplace and turn on Guitar Hero or Rock Band-and each family member plays their part. Afterward, we turn on our favorite movie and enjoy a piece of home made apple pie with either coffee or hot cocoa. And finally, we put on our warmest jammies and slippers and snuggle up in our cozy, warm beds for the night.

To beat the winter chills my family and I make a big batch of homemade hot cocoa, some with peppermint, some with cherries, and of course some with marshmallows.
