FunSlides Carpet Skates from Simtec Co., www.funslides.com, $17.99

OK, so pieces of plastic that strap to your feet and allow you to slide across the carpet hardly qualify as a product you (or your kids) need, but it definitely qualifies as a product they’ll love.

The FunSlides Carpet Skates arrived at the Chicago Parent office and, unlike many of the products that come into the office, they didn’t go into the box for later consideration. Instead, the college-age intern and the 7-year-old daughter of a co-worker strapped them on and they were off—skating around the office and giggling uncontrollably.

Every other child who tried them did the same. The response was unanimous: FunSlides are the most fun you can have with a piece of a plastic and a little Velcro.

At $17.99 a pair, the price is a little high, but if you’re looking for a way to get the kids off the couch and moving around as the winter winds blow outside, these just might be the answer.

I do, however, recommend foregoing the The Carpet Puck, which is sold separately for $3.49. No need to give them weapons to shoot at the walls.
