Celebrate PB, with or without the J

It's National Peanut Butter Month. Peanuts are not nuts, by the way, but are technically a vegetable, according to the Georgia Peanut Commission. Then again, according to the University of Illinois Department of Botany, peanuts are a fruit. In any event, here are peanut butter and peanuts by the numbers:

7 Number of months until National Bread Month, at which point you will finally be able to make a proper sandwich.

2 Number of years before the U.S. Army, citing the need for further research, will be able to complete development of a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich that will stay fresh for three years at 80 degrees or six months at 100 degrees.

75 Percent of American homes in which peanut butter can be found.

130 Number of peanut butter sandwiches eaten by the average American child before completing high school.

800,000,000 Number of pounds of peanut butter consumed by Americans each year.

1 Percent of children who have some form of allergic reaction to peanuts. 15 Number of men on the National Peanut Board.
