My mom is the best because... Our kids love us, they really love us :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

This month, we asked children to send us essays about why their mom is the best. Here are a few of our favorites, with a special thank you to Sue McFadden, fourth grade teacher at Troy Shorewood Elementary in Shorewood, who asked her class to write for us.

I don't think there is a better mom than my mom. She always helps at my school and takes me and my brother to activities and fun places.

She likes sports and that is good. She goes roller skating and ice skating and even throws me balls so I can practice hitting them with my bat. She tells me that girls can do anything they want to do. They just have to give it a try.

When I go to bed every night, my mom says, "Sleep tight, don't let the unicorns bite." I told her that bedbugs scared me, so she changed it to something I like. That is unicorns. I like it when she says that! Brooke Jacobson, 6, Channahon

My mom would probably qualify to be the best mother in the world! I say that because whenever I am sick, she is there for me (except when she is out buying me medicine). One example of her being a great mom and being there for me is when I was in the hospital for 10 days with over three different kinds of sicknesses. She never left my side. She was even there overnight!

My mom doesn't have the best job in the world, and she doesn't really earn much money but she still finds the time to have fun with me and my little brother. She also earns just enough at her job to get us all of the things we need and some of the things we want. Kevin Moran, 10, Shorewood

My mom is always there for me and if she wasn't there for me, I don't know what I would do. She is one of my best friends in the whole wide world. She used to smoke until I got sad and she stopped.

When my friends and I get into fights, she would always tell me that we would be friends again.

She is working from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. so I barely see her. Although I still have some time with her every day. I will never stop loving her! Kaitlyn Reitz, 10, Shorewood

My mom is always trying to be the best mom in the world when she already is.

This past weekend, she bought me new clothes just for the heck of it. It was like $17 or $18 and she doesn't have a lot of money.

When she even makes one tiny little mistake (which isn't often) she'll say that she's the worst mom in the entire world. She'll sometimes even say that just because she works, which I don't understand.

I know she's the best mom in the world for me. Betsy Podkowa, 10, Shorewood

My mom is the best mom in the world because she might not be perfect, but I still love her. She likes to clean a lot. I sometimes call her a neat freak.

She is funny, just like me. Whenever she hears music, she dances and tries to sing well. My mom is also a good cook. She makes the best food I've ever tasted.

My mom is so much fun. She likes to play so many games and she just doesn't want to stop.

My mom is very special in different ways. She sometimes embarrasses me, but no one ever tells.

She also goes to a school to learn English. She is not very good at it, but she is very patient and she will learn the language.

I know my mom is the best! Cynthia Mancilla, 10, Shorewood

My mom is the best because she always says "yes" if I ask to go somewhere or ask to have someone over. She also is like a mom and dad to me because my parents are divorced. She works hard, then comes home and makes dinner, reads to me and watches TV with me. She is like super mom!

My mom takes me to basketball games and practices, she takes me to baseball and she takes me to the YMCA just to shoot around. On vacations, I get to go to the beach when I want.

So, I'm just telling you how cool my mom is and how much I love her. I think she's the best mom in the world. Sam Tinken, 10, Shorewood

My mom is the best mom in the world because she is my everything. She cooks, cleans, does chores and picks out my clothes sometimes.

She makes me go to church once a week because she wants me to learn about Jesus and how he created everyone, but I know he made her the best mom ever.

She helps in almost everything I don't get. Like if I don't get a math problem, she will teach me until I know it, and supporting me is another thing she does a lot.

In the beginning of the summer, I wanted to land a back flip. She supported me and helped me even when I stopped doing it because I thought I would never land it, but she said that I could do it and by the end of the summer, I landed it. My mom is the greatest mom ever. Period! Alex Bebar, 10, Shorewood

Mom's great because I love her. I love to be nice to her because she lets me make a pillow fort with all the pillows in the whole house. She gives me allowance every week so I'll be rich. And she makes great dinners and if I eat a good dinner, she lets me have a great dessert. Greg Johnson, 5, Woodridge

I think my mom is special because she helps me with learning to cook. When mom tucks me in at night, we say prayers and then she rubs my back and then we talk about stuff. She took me to the toy store on my birthday. Then we went to my favorite place for lunch. Alex Johnson, 8, Woodridge
