5 fun things you didn’t know you could do with your family in Chicago

Millennium Park, Navy Pier and the Willis Tower SkyDeck are three of Chicago’s most popular attractions. But if you’re looking for something a little different to try, mix up your routine with these fun (and a little off the wall) activities that you might not have heard about.

Rent a bike or paddle board at the beach

Surprise, surprise, there are more exciting (and healthier!) things to do at the beach than just soaking up the sun. Consider renting a Double Surrey bike and riding around Foster Beach with your whole family. Or, if you’re looking for something a little bit more daring, rent a paddleboard and try to keep your balance on Montrose Beach.

See what’s happening at the library

Yes, libraries and books go hand in hand, but there’s so much more to discover at Harold Washington Library. From well-known author chats and kid-friendly art projects to genealogy databases to research your family’s history and scenic views (the ninth floor Winter Garden is home to plants and natural light from the glass roof), everyone in the family can find something to love.

Catch a movie in the park

We all love the movie theater experience, but the prices? Not so much. The Chicago Park District presents movies at various parks all summer long. From classics like “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” to kid favorites like “Minions,” movie night is sure to be an event for the whole family to enjoy.

Check out one of the largest model rail lines in the U.S.

Take a weird tour of Chicago

Looking for something a little different than the average Chicago tour? Consider a Weird Chicago Tour to get a closer look at some of the scarier sides of the city.  Bring your family on the Haunted History tour that’s suitable for all ages. Adults can also join some of the darker tours which explore serial killers, gangs and bar hangouts from the Prohibition era.
