My eight year old daughter is going to paint a canvas, cut out the face, and go as Mona Lisa. She has been perfecting her shifty smile. Papa is going as Leonardo Da Vinci.

Halloween!!! We just started school today!  With four kids, I like to go with a theme so the entire family "matches".  This year's theme is story book characters.  Going from youngest to oldest a princess, rainbow fish, Clifford, and Captain Underpants.  It will probably change a zillion times before October, but for now that's what we are going with.

So far this year I have one wanting to be a fried egg, one a gumball machine, one a chewed piece of gum, and the other a squished bug.  Since we usually make our own costumes, this should be quite interesting.

We are so excited for Halloween! My youngest is going to be a pirate, and my oldest doesn't know what he wants to be yet! He usually changes his mind about 10 times before Halloween!!

I believe that it is one day to celebrate the dark, but my kids and I are going to celebrate the Light that Jesus has given,

    Why celebrate this Day?

    Mike.

We don't celebrate Halloween. Most Christians we know instead celebrate Fall Festival where they don't need to get dressed up but they have fun fall-themed activities.

All are undecided this year so far....My oldest is undecided as to whether she is going trick-or-treating or not still. She wants the candy, but she's 15, so she's at the point where she might feel silly and embarrased! Halloween is a fun day when kids can pretend to be their favorite characters or dress up as something fun, for us, no more.

We are planning a story in October's issue that may give you some great ideas and tips just for your daughter. I hope she can still enjoy the day! My kids love Halloween.

It's looking like this year we are going to have another princess probably Jasmine and a cool army man. Still you never know we still have two months left to change their minds.

We don't do Halloween, but do celebrate the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos, when we remember family members who have died, but decorating and altar with pics, fave things of the person, flowers and candles. Its a beautiful way to celebrate life!

Re: This week's piece of the prize, Aug. 21, 2008

Well, the older one (5) wants to be an astronaut, just because that's what he spends half his time talking about lately...which made a recent trip to the Adler Planetarium uncomfortably like a clothes-fitting session at Carter's.  The younger one (10 mo.) is going to be a zebra, because he's got no say in the matter yet!  Heck, he doesn't even know what a zebra is.  The joy of hand-me-downs!

My 3 year old daughter who has just discovered and fallen in love with the Wizard of Oz is going as Dorthy - - Grandma has already started sewing the dress and we are on the look for the red ruby slippers and a basket with toto!!!!  Natalia (my daughter) has said she will not dress up as anything scary because she does not want to scare the little kids!!!  like she is so big herself LOL
