7th Annual Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest

    Dear Parents,

A peanut butter sandwich could help an aspiring child chef pay for college.  The makers of Jif® peanut butter will be accepting entries for the 7th Annual Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest™ from August 4 through November 14, 2008. Encouraging kids to invent new creative peanut butter sandwich recipes is a great way for parents to foster creativity in their children. At the same time, kids and parents are spending quality time together and having fun in the kitchen.

Sandwiches will be judged on the following criteria: creativity, taste, appearance, nutritional balance and ease of preparation.  The grand prize… a $25,000 scholarship fund.  Four runner-ups will each receive a $2,500 scholarship fund.  For Official Rules and entry forms, visit www.jif.com beginning August 4, 2008.

Last year, hundreds of kid chefs from across the country put their culinary skills to the test by reinventing the classic peanut butter sandwich. The winner of the 6th Annual Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest was Samuel Sosa, 11, of Riverside, CA. He created the “Crunchy Chinese Fortune Cookie Sandwich,” consisting of Jif Creamy Peanut Butter, celery and apple on wheat bread crimped into the shape of a fortune cookie. The “fortune cookies” are served with a dipping sauce of Jif Creamy Peanut Butter, coconut milk, soy sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, sesame oil and chili powder.

Adults need encouragement to exercise their creativity too, and that is why Jif is offering up something for moms as well. For years, choosy moms have made Jif their number one choice of peanut butter which is why Jif is inviting adults to share stories of the choices moms make in the Jif Moms Voice their Choice Contest.

From August 4, 2008, through November 14, 2008, adults can submit an essay – 250 words or less – answering either of the following questions: How do you (as a Mom) make the best choices for your family? Or if you are not a Mom, how have you observed a Mom making the best choices for her family? One grand prize winner will win a trip to New York City to serve as a judge at the final 7th Annual Jif Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest event in March 2009. Mary Grabowski, mother of two and this year’s winner, said her job as a mother “is the hardest job in the world but is definitely the most rewarding.” For Official Rules and entry and to learn more about Mary’s winning essay, log on to www.Jif.com beginning August 4.

We hope you will consider sharing these opportunities with your readers. Maybe Samuel’s creativity will help spark some out of the box sandwiches from your readers or Mary will inspire others to share their stories about the choices moms make for their families. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 516-221-0614.

    Sincerely,

    Heidi Donato
