Chicago Special Parent -- how you can help

Excitement about Chicago Special Parent continues to build. As we move closer to publication of Chicago Special Parent, an empowerment guide for parents with children with special needs, I want to invite your participation.

Key to the magazine is the parent-to-parent connection we hope to help families make in the Chicago area. No one should feel alone in this parenting journey. We'd love to encourage you to share what you've learned as parents with children with special needs to help other parents in your shoes. Here's how:

    1. Photo gallery. We’d love to help you show off your child with special needs, ages birth to 22. Send us a photo you especially love (either as a jpeg of at least 300 dpi or through mail at Chicago Special Parent Photo Gallery, 141 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, IL 60302). Photos not used in the magazine will be used in an online photo gallery. Only the first name, age and community of the child will be used.

    2. Share your favorite places in the Chicago area to go with your family. We want to help get the word out about great places to get out of the house and have fun with your kids that especially accommodate your child's needs. E-mail me at tamara@chicagoparent.com. Please be sure to include your name and community.

    3. Share your best tips or advice for raising a child with special needs. In addition, how do you juggle home, work, school, therapies and doctors’ visits and your own needs? E-mail me at tamara@chicagoparent.com. Be sure to include your name and community.

    4. Share how you balance the needs of your child with special needs and those of their siblings. E-mail me at tamara@chicagoparent.com. Be sure to include your name and community. If you have a photo you love of your children together, feel free to send that along, too.

As always, I love hearing from you and welcome your thoughts on our new magazine.

    Tamara L. O'Shaughnessy, Editor
