This week's piece of the prize

Your kids will go ape if you are one of five lucky Chicago Parent readers to win “Orangutan Island” and “Growing Up Safari” from Animal Planet on DVD. To win, tell us what animal your kids would most like to see if they had a chance to go on safari. Once you have posted, e-mail your answer, name and Chicago Parent ID to e-dition@chicagoparent.com. In submitting your comments, you are granting Chicago Parent permission to run them now or in the future. You must post and e-mail us for your answer to be counted. We will not release your e-mail information-it is purely for contact purposes. Winners will be chosen at random and may have no affiliation with Wednesday Journal Inc. or its employees.

Re: This week's piece of the prize

I have no idea where my kids would be on safari, but they want to see a Moose.  We have a cat named moose, so I am sure that that has something to do with it.  I my self would really like to see a giraffee.  They seem so fragile, but I am sure that they are not.

My son would probably like to see a Lion on safari since he loves "roaring".  He is 18 months and likes making animal sounds.

Re: This week's piece of the prize

If my kids could go on safari they would most like to see a monkey.  They have been interested in monkeys since we recently visited a Home Depot.  A guy was in there with his pet monkey and they thought that was the most exciting thing.  He told them about his monkey (i.e. age).  Who would have thought they would get a monkey lesson at Home Depot.  They visited the monkeys at the zoo this week too.  So they would want to see monkeys in their natural habitat on safari.

My youngest would go for any type of money, ape, or orangutan. I think my oldest would agree. My middle child would want to see the cats- lions, tigers, cheetas, etc, like me.

Re: This week's piece of the prize

My daughter would enjoy seeing a giraffe the most.  She's highly interested in giraffes, lions, and tigers but the giraffe is most appealing to her.  We took her to the zoo once and couldn't get to the giraffe exhibit until almost closing time.  We were actually on our way out since she seemed like she was tired and irritable and VOILA!  There were the giraffes and my how she perked up!  She stared at those animals with such amazement!  Of course, then we had to pry her little fingers off the fence bars when it was time to go home.  [how sad]

I think we would actually have to choose monkeys!  We just love to see them every chance we get.  Zoos are wonderful places to spend a good deal of time just enjoying their entertainment.  The ape house at Brookfield Zoo is one of our favorites.  Monkey humor has even made it's way into our household.  I even refer to my kids often as "the monkeys" :-)

My son Masyn will be 1 year old at the end of the month and though he loves making many different animal sounds, the one he started out with and is still his favorite- is an elephant.  His dad and I make a pretty realistic sounding elephant noise by pressing our lips together so he blows raspberries in imitation of our elephant sounds since that's what it looks like we're doing.  On our recent trip to the zoo, he got so excited when he saw the elephants that he spit all over himself blowin' raspberries at 'em!

My boys would most want to see Hippos because they heard that they are the deadliest animals in the jungle.

My son Max (4) would especially love to see Hyenas!...and Okapi and Spider Monkeys.  He regularly plans safari adventures, and will tell you that he is an animal expert!  My daughter Madeline (6) would love to see Okapi and Elephants.  Both kids prefer baby animals, because they think baby animals are always cuter.

I have two sons who just love animals.  They just can't get enough.  The older one would most like to see gorillas, because he loves watching them chase each other around at the zoo and play just like he and his brothers do.  My youngest likes to pretend he is an animal rescuer like Diego, and elephants are his favorite animal.

Re: This week's piece of the prize

My oldest daughter would like to see a monkey.  She said she'd like to play with it and possibly keep it as a pet!  My youngest said she'd like to see a lion and my y middle daughter told me a camel or a kangaroo!  I think they were thinking different countries when I asked about a Safari - my middle daughter was thinking about Australia and the the others were thinking about Africa.
