One of the best Christmas presents my brothers and I ever got was an air hockey table. For a few years in my childhood, I was really good at air hockey thanks to all the practice I got against my brothers. So when I heard about the Turbofan Hover Hockey by Geospace that turns any table into an air hockey table, I was sold.
The minute it arrived in our office, we ripped open the package, dug up some batteries and found the nearest long table to try it out. The Hover Hockey is basically a puck with a super-strong fan inside that allows it to float across smooth surfaces. It also comes with two mallets, so you’re all set for a one-on-one game. The “hover” part of the Hover Hockey works surprisingly well—the fan is loud, but it does the job. However, take caution with where you’re playing. We set up shop on a table located on a tile floor and the first time the puck hit the floor, the battery compartment door broke off. That’s the problem with using a regular table instead of an air hockey table—no bumpers. I’d recommend setting up your own bumpers on whatever table you decide to use or, at the very least, to make sure you’re playing over carpeting so nothing breaks when the puck does hit the floor. The battery door was repaired with some tape and still works good as new, but one more hit to the tile and I think it might completely bust since the impact left a lingering crack as well. Even if it is a little fragile, the Hover Hockey is still fun and way cheaper than buying an entire air hockey table.
The Turbofan Hover Hockey retails for $9.99. For more information visit www.geospaceplay.com.
