About this blog

Cathy Cassani Adams is searching for greater meaning and higher purpose. Her search has taken her down different paths, from the aisles of the self-help section, to the workshops of gurus, to her past experience as a child and family therapist at Children's Memorial Hospital, to her current work as a certified Parent Coach and yoga instructor.  But her greatest lessons come from her three beautiful daughters, ages 8, 6, and 3.  Cathy is the author of "The Self-Aware Parent: 19 Lessons for Growing with Your Children.", she's an instructor in the Sociology Department at Dominican University, and she and her husband Todd host Zen Parenting Radio on Pagatim.fm.  Cathy lives with her family in Elmhurst and she can be found at www.cathycassaniadams.com.

Annie Burnside and Soul to Soul Parenting

Posted Sep 28, 2010 2:49 PM

I started flipping through the pages and I realized quickly that this was a special book. I read a lot of self help and personal growth (my basement is filled with them), but this book was really speaking to me. Not only is it about self care and personal and spiritual awareness, it’s about how to engage the entire family and build a more conscious household.

Gratitude, for the sake of gratitude

Posted Sep 8, 2010 2:36 PM

To me, gratitude isn’t about the how, it’s about the why. It’s the intention behind the message, the card, or the wall post. The Dance List

Posted Sep 2, 2010 12:33 PM

It got me thinking about my ideal play list for a night of dancing (like the guy from High Fidelity, even though I know this list would appall him), and I think I narrowed down my top ten. These songs inspire me to move it-move it, but it’s eclectic to say the least, so hold onto your hat….

Look Ma, No Pins!

Posted Aug 30, 2010 3:23 PM

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of presenting at Just Born and Nearly Born Night, an educational afternoon for new or expecting parents. One of the other presenters spoke about cloth diapers, and I was amazed by what she said. I was also kind of bummed that I didn’t have this information when my girls were really little - my third daughter is on the verge of being fully trained.

Emotional and Physical

Posted Aug 23, 2010 10:26 PM

In our house we talk a lot about how the mind can affect the body, Jacey has being hearing this her whole life, but I know from experience that when you are in distress, it’s harder to embrace this concept. So instead of lecturing her about the interrelationship between physical and mental health, I just spent time with her so we could talk.

A Lesson from High School Musical

Posted Aug 9, 2010 5:47 PM

Like so many times before (this is a familiar pattern in my life), I was on the verge of putting everyone else's needs before my own. And then here comes Gabriella, singing about how sometimes you need to walk away.
