Power Struggles

Constantly living from this place is too stifling, too demanding, and basically not fun, especially because it’s afraid to fail. It serves me, but when it has too much power I get stuck. But my heart decisions are free and exciting, fun and inspiring....

Holiday Emotions

The holidays can be busy, stressful, and full of expectation. We pack in the parties, gift giving, to-do lists, and activities. But I am wondering if we make it busy because of the emotion. The holidays tend to bring up a lot of feelings.

Airport Faith

Last week we flew to Seattle to visit family for Thanksgiving. Our plan was to arrive in Seattle, then my husband would immediately hop another plane to Portland for a work meeting. Sounds good in theory, right? But there were parts we forgot to “think” through...

The Birthday Video

I do not find joy in scrapbooking, keeping a baby book, or keeping a photo album of my children’s milestones. And unfortunately, I often beat myself up about not fulfilling this “parenting duty”, the belief that we are supposed to capture every moment of our children’s lives.

The Definition of Success

Yesterday I listened to a radio show about parenting, specifically how we can best raise successful children. Author Elizabeth Lesser described “two sides” of parenting, both vitally important for the successful development of a child. She described each side as a wing, because if used together they allow our children to fly.

Watching Parenthood
