It's incredible to think of any musical artist
being able to release a staggering 34 full-length albums over the
course of their career, but in an incredible 56 years of recording
for Smithsonian Folkways, that's exactly the number that Ella
Jenkins reaches this week, with the release of "123s &
Jenkins, a Chicago resident, is often referred to
as America's "First Lady of Children's Music," and with her albums
come a certain level of comfort, with each song delivered in a
trusted voice that kids embrace.
We've been listening to "123s & ABCs" for a few
weeks now, both here at Rock Father HQ and in the car during our
daily travels (preview three tracks
here) and the connection with my girls was
immediate. Jenkins is a natural teacher and the informal
presentation brings a "live" feel to the 16-song collection geared
toward helping kids learn counting and the alphabet.
