Whenever I run out of a traditional cleaner or when I get the feeling to go greener in my cleaning, I turn to Pinterest. Recently, I encountered a problem of soap scum in my tub and so set off to find something on Pinterest that could fix this problem for me. I stumbled across this pin and found the solution came from Martha Stewart!
It's pretty simple. Mix a few drops of liquid soap (I used Dawn), some baking soda and add just enough water to make a paste. Then, get a coarse brush and scrub! Without much effort, my tub was gleaming white and ready to be used in no time. This was a pin that was quick, easy and I already had everything I needed to make it.
Many of the ingredients you need for homemade cleaning supplies can be found within your own home. For example, this drain cleaner only requires vinegar and baking soda. Homemade glass cleaner can be made with a bottle of dawn, vinegar and a spray bottle. Many people recommend just using the empty Windex bottle when you are finished with it. By using these non-harsh ingredients, you are also eliminating the chemicals that you are exposing your family to on a daily basis when you clean your home.
Need an abrasive (but not offensive) kitchen scrub? Try this hydrogen & baking soda combination. There's even oven cleaner and something another pinned referred to as "miracle" cleaner, but that looks just like the above referenced kitchen scrub. Finally, if you are feeling particularly ambitious, you can whip up a batch of homemade laundry detergent.
Have you ventured into green cleaning and used Pinterest to do it? What are your favorite (and effective) combinations?
