I remember it like it was yesterday. My Mom took me to a
performance of the New York City Ballet, at their summer 'home' at
the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga, New York. I think
I was six years old. I recall wearing a new dress and
strolling with Mom on the lawn at the outdoor amphitheater. I'll
have to ask her if we had seats under cover - I think so. Odd that
I don't recall the ballet they performed, but I'll never forget the
feeling of the warm sun on my face or how excited I felt, in
anticipation of the performance.
I can hardly wait for this Saturday, when I'll get to take my
daughter to her first Ballet! It'll be her 9th birthday,
so that will make it extra special. Funny, but she's performed in a
ballet (two years ago she danced the role of a "Barbaloot" in the
Naperville Park District's adaptation of "The Lorax") but never
seen one for herself.
