I remember it like it was yesterday. My Mom took me to a performance of the New York City Ballet, at their summer 'home' at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga, New York. I think I was six years old.  I recall wearing a new dress and strolling with Mom on the lawn at the outdoor amphitheater. I'll have to ask her if we had seats under cover - I think so. Odd that I don't recall the ballet they performed, but I'll never forget the feeling of the warm sun on my face or how excited I felt, in anticipation of the performance.

I can hardly wait for this Saturday, when I'll get to take my daughter to her first Ballet! It'll be her 9th birthday, so that will make it extra special. Funny, but she's performed in a ballet (two years ago she danced the role of a "Barbaloot" in the Naperville Park District's adaptation of "The Lorax") but never seen one for herself.

The Midwest Ballet Theatre, a not-for profit corporation and pre-professional ballet company, is presenting its full-length original story ballet "Peter Pan" on Saturday, March 6, 2010, and Sunday, March 7, 2010, at 1:30 PM at the Tivoli Theatre, located at 5021 Highland Avenue in downtown Downers Grove.

The performance will feature Tinkerbell, Captain Hook, The Croc and the rest of the gang when the MBT showcases their unsurpassed young talent. The ballet will be set to a score by Bizet, Grieg & Auber, with choreography by MBT artistic director Mim Eichmann. Based on the original tale by J.M. Barrie, the ballet performed by the Midwest Ballet troupe premiered in 1989.  MBT's "Peter Pan" has since been in the Company repertoire and reportedly charmed thousands of area children for over two decades!

Tickets are $13 for adults and $12 for seniors/students and children.  All seating is open, with running time of approximately 1 hr. 20 minutes. For additional information, you may call 630.971.9751.
