I am in an interracial marriage and have friends who are gay parents, one adopted, the other had a sperm donor. I addressed this with my 8-year-old awhile ago. A family is people that love each other; it doesn't matter the last name or what they look like. When I hear ignorance about accepting alternative families, I like to say to the specific fool, you might not understand it, but you need to respect the fact that it makes someone happy and others are happy as a result of that.
