When people tell me that they never know what to make for meals for the family. I often wonder what ingredients they have stocked in their pantries.

I am a firm believer that if armed with key basic ingredients, everyday meals can be great! In my years of cooking and working in restaurants, I have made a list of pantry basics that I believe every home cook should have.

What key ingredients do you have stocked in your refrigerator and pantry? Share it with us!

Seasonings and Herbs:

  • Kosher Salt
  • Fresh Ground Pepper
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • Dried Thyme
  • Dried Oregano
  • Paprika
  • Dried Bay Leaves
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • Extra Virgin & Regular Olive Oil
  • Canola Oil
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Honey

Refrigerated Flavorings/Ingredients:

  • Plum (Roma) Tomatoes
  • Celery Stalks
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Chicken (Beef and/or Vegetable) Stock
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Eggs

Canned/Dry Seasonings & Ingredients:

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Seasoned Bread Crumbs
  • Canned Tomatoes (diced, crushed, stewed)
  • Tomato Paste
  • Rice (Ex: Jasmine, Basmati, Long Grain, Brown)
  • Pasta (Ex: Spaghetti, Penne, Fusilli, Macaroni, Fettuccine)
