If you are like me I am sure you are hit with hundreds, if not thousands, of images, e-mails, videos and texts on a daily basis. Do you have time for them? Do you ignore them? Decipher them? Investigate them? When I saw this video it really struck a chord and made me re-examine the many images I encounter.

With an "almost" teenage daughter and two younger boys I know that the message is something for them to see, think about and talk about.

I think of all of the time I spent in the '80s scouring my Seventeen, Teen, Glamour and Vogue magazines for direction and comfort. How long have I been looking at distorted photos? Not sure but it's easy to see why I and so many feel as though they can't measure up when they see billboards with a final image.

I stress that what's on the INSIDE is important, but with images all around us, the superficial is what many think of first.

She's a totally different person in the ad. Great reminder to us all that a person's character should be the most important thing judged.

Thank you Lourdes for this insightful piece. I loved the Dove campaign and asked my daughter who is a preteen to watch it. She couldn't believe how hard ad campaigns work especially in America to make a person glamorous. I think it struck a cord in her too and she ended up sending it to her friends. Thank you again!!

It surprises me how young girls are when they begin fretting about their looks. There are times I know I feed into it unintentionally with my girls because these types of images are the ones I grew up with, too. I also believe what's inside is important, but too many people still judge on first glance.
