Endless summer days at The Morton Arboretum

If you have walked into any big box store since the Fourth of July, I am sure you have noticed school supplies, school clothes and deals on backpacks and lunch pails. While I understand the concept of getting prepared early, I also know the benefits of living in denial. There is so much more fun to be had, and we all know that work will get done … eventually.

I personally feel like summer has just gotten started, and I am not going to spend July in a sea of supply lists when I could be enjoying the great outdoors, splashing in the water, reading books and playing Legos with my kids. Sure, I might be driving all over the South suburbs in August like a crazed lunatic looking for 120 glue sticks and plastic coated folders the night before school starts, but I don’t care. It’s going to be worth it.

The Morton Arboretum is where we will be spending much of the rest of our hot and lazy summer days. Not only does the Arboretum offer walking trails, a gorgeous children’s garden and other spectacular displays of natural beauty right here in Illinois, but beginning on Friday, July 17 they will be offering a new Nature Connects exhibit featuring thirteen huge Lego brick displays inspired by nature. I don’t know about you, but my kids gravitate toward anything Lego, so this is pretty amazing to them! This awesome exhibit will run until November, and is perfect for families pretending that school is not right around the corner.

The Morton Arboretum is so dedicated to families, they have offered an awesome deal for Chicago Parent readers! From now until August 3 you can receive 20 percent off a membership to The Morton Arboretum using the promotional code: 51534C. You can set up your membership online or over the phone.

So, who’s with me? Let’s pretend summer lasts forever!
