The Listen to Your Mother show: your questions answered

Lately, I have been writing about fun things for families to do in the far south suburbs, but today I want to share something for parents to do in the city. It also makes a great Mother’s Day gift!

This Sunday, May 3, at the Anthenaeum Theatre in Chicago is the Listen to Your Mother Show. This is Chicago’s fourth consecutive year hosting this production, which is 90 minutes of readings by local writers, performers and people wanting to share their stories.

All of the stories celebrate motherhood, and I am so honored to be a part of the cast for the second time.

People ask me all the time, “Why should I come to Listen to Your Mother? Is it fun? Why would I want to hear stories from a bunch of moms? What does Listen to Your Mother do?”

I always say the same things:

Listen to Your Mother is something that, although it does celebrates motherhood, the diversity of the cast and the stories they share are so much bigger than the topic of motherhood. It is humanity. It is a movement that reveals people from every walk of life and shares their raw experience. It reveals our inner empathy.

Yes, it is fun. You will laugh, but you will also cry. You will probably learn something, too.

Moms aren’t the only people who perform in Listen to Your Mother.

In addition to sharing stories and bringing people together, Listen to Your Mother has a commitment to supporting local organizations through ticket sales. This year, 10 percent of all ticket sales will benefit The Red Pump Project.

Chicago Parent, which is your source for all things family, is one of our local sponsors.

So, if you’re looking for a great time this weekend away from the kids, and you want to support an awesome cause, I suggest buying your tickets to Listen to Your Mother.

I’ll see you there.
