My husband and I try to make a point of getting out once or twice a month as a couple - no kid or work talk allowed. But parents know that planning date nights can be a huge headache: sometimes securing a babysitter becomes such a monumental task that we end up having yet another "date night" curled up together with Netflix.

Thankfully, the world-class Lookingglass Theatre has heard our cries for help and offers a wonderful Family Subscription Series, guaranteeing you a Sunday date at the theatre. For each production, you can choose to have your children attend with you (if you think they can sit still and enjoy the show) or they can take part in an on-site educational workshop during the matinée, taught by one of Lookingglass' acclaimed teaching artists.Performances will be held at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson.

Each subscription is $75 for young people ages 6-14 with the purchase of an adult Sunday matinée subscription. It includes access to the best seats in the house, pre-sale opportunities and savings before single tickets go on sale to the general public, special perks at more than a dozen exclusive restaurant partners, unlimited ticket exchanges, box office concierge service (called Leave it to Lookingglass), discounted parking at the nearby John Hancock Center and Olympia Centre Garage (161 E. Chicago Ave.), reduced tuition for Lookingglass' renowned classes and summer camps, and courtesy performance date reminders.

I'm looking forward to catching The Great Fire, written and directed by ensemble member John Musial. The production, coinciding with the 140th Anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, runs Sept. 21 - Nov. 20.

For Family Subscription and ticket information, call the Lookingglass Theatre box office at (312) 337-0665 or visit lookingglasstheatre.org.
