Opening the Vault: Mummies

View more than 20 mummified humans and animals from Egypt and Peru. The Field Museum obtained most of these remains from the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, and many have not been on display since. The mummies are shown along with detailed scan images, allowing visitors to see pointers to the methods used for mummification, signs of serious injuries and illnesses, and offerings and jewelry placed inside the wrappings.

"Becoming A Conscious Parent - Tools & Principles for Parenting From Your Heart"

Northbrook Citizens for Drug & Alcohol Awareness would like to invite all parents and guardians of toddlers through 5th graders to a new parenting series of classes called "Becoming A Conscious Parent - Tools & Principles for Parenting From Your Heart" presented by Lauren Bondy and Karen Jacobson. The classes will be offered in four two-hour sessions on Tuesdays, February 21, 28, March 6 and 13, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1133 Pfingsten Road, Northbrook, IL. Some of the things you will learn in the classes are: Enhancing children's self-esteem; Understanding the reasons for misbehavior, and what you can DO; Foster Cooperation among siblings; Eliminate power struggles; and Feel calmer and enjoy being a parent. Kids can climb around a butterfly crawl space, play "I Spy" on a giant bug wall, learn to identify insects by their sound, and practice insect math in the math center.
