Chicago Jazz Festival: Neighborhood

The JazzCity Latin Jazz Festival opens a new Chicago Jazz Festival concert series called Neighborhood Nights, a series of free concerts presented in neighborhoods across the city to introduce people to Chicago's jazz legacy and promote the festival's activities in downtown Chicago Aug. 30-Sept. 2. Neighborhood Nights kicks off at 7 p.m. July 8 at Humboldt Park Boathouse, 1359 N. Sacramento. The series travels to the Carter G. Woodson Library at 9525 S. Halsted at 1 p.m. July 21. The Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 N. Central Park provides a lush backdrop for the next concert at 6 p.m. July 28. At 6 p.m. Aug. 17, listen as pianist Bethany Pickens and friends celebrate Sor Juana, a festival honoring women's contributions to the arts at the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th Street. From July 29-Aug 26 (Sundays) get a taste of the festival every weekend at a 5-concert series at Old Town School, 4544 N. Jammin' with the Jellies
