FIRST kids build robots and compete in fast-faced,
sports-themed regional competitions. More than 50 teams of kids
face off for the chance to participate in the national
FIRST Championship in St. Louis next month.
Kids can sit in the seat of an antique tractor, see modern
farm equipment, participate in hands-on activities, ride pedal
tractors, shell corn, see farm animals, and enter for a chance to
win their very own pedal tractor. Bring non-perishable food items
to earn an extra entry in the pedal tractor drawing. Food will be
donated to a local food pantry. Refreshments available.
An exploration of how Augmentative and Alternative
Communication (AAC) strategies and devices can supplement the
natural learning a child does in their early years.
Hands-on session provides background information about
research regarding young children and AAC, and gives time to
explore examples of communication devices and how they provide
evidence-based supports for language learning. Children are

role of transportation in their lives. The exhibit includes an auto
repair shop, a train station with caboose, flight simulator and
airplane cockpit, wind tunnel, and bicycles on stands. The exhibit
will also help develop map-reading skills, teach the elements of
flight, and help children recognize street signs. In addition, a
G-scale model train will run above the children's department desk
all year. The exhibit also includes information on energy
efficient ways to travel.
