The Legends of Oz Express

Families can follow their hearts at the Tin Man’s Friendship Club by making friendship pins, test their brains in the Scarecrow’s Workshop with arts and crafts, and show their courage by performing on the Lion’s “Mane” stage. They will also hang out in cozy “Candy County” and hear the story that inspired the film, Dorothy of Oz, written by celebrated children’s author Roger Stanton Baum. Kids will virtually follow the yellow brick road in the “Legends of Oz World” iPad gaming stations, and Dorothy and her friends will be there for pictures, prizes and fun. Guests are encouraged to bring a new book to be donated to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

4-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Kicks Off Water Safety Month!

Meet 4-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Lenny Krayzelburg and get autographs and photos. Children can receive a free swim evaluation and two free swim lessons when they register for the Lenny Krayzelburg Swim Academy ("LKSA") swim program.

El Dia de los Ninos/El Dia de los Libros

Family festival featuring games and activities from classic and contemporary children’s books. Kids can practice for the hunger games with archery, darts, and knot tying, hunt for clues around the library like Nancy Drew, make a mask of one of the characters in Winnie the Pooh, and toss rings on Pinocchio’s growing nose. Families will also have a chance to explore the Early Learning Center Transportation exhibit and go for a ride in a caboose, fly a plane, and ride a bike. Kirby the Kangaroo, the Great Lakes Credit Union's mascot, will greet children along with Shrek and other well-known book characters. Each family will sample fresh made ice cream from La Michoacana Ice Cream parlor and take home free books.
