Cinco de Mayo Pinata Party

Lincoln Park Zoo | Chicago, Ill.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by building piñatas, which are a type of enrichment that many animals from meerkats to mongoose to tigers love to tear apart in hopes of finding treats inside. Create piñatas for your favorite zoo animals and then head out into the zoo to watch them tear the piñatas to pieces.

When: 9-10:30 a.m., 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1-2:30 p.m.

The Legends of Oz Express

Kohl Children's Museum | Glenview, Ill.


Families can follow their hearts at the Tin Man’s Friendship Club by making friendship pins, test their brains in the Scarecrow’s Workshop with arts and crafts, and show their courage by performing on the Lion’s “Mane” stage. They will also hang out in cozy “Candy County” and hear the story that inspired the film, Dorothy of Oz, written by celebrated children’s author Roger Stanton Baum. Kids will virtually follow the yellow brick road in the “Legends of Oz World” iPad gaming stations, and Dorothy and her friends will be there for pictures, prizes and fun. Guests are encouraged to bring a new book to be donated to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
