Long Grove Chocolate Festival

The Village of Long Grove is transformed in to a chocolate lover's paradise. Enjoy live music, food and wine pairings and great children's activities, including rides for all ages, rock climbing, obstacle courses, pony and kiddie rides.

Along the Bluebird Trail

Prairieview Education Center | Crystal Lake, Ill.

Event includes a presentation about bluebirds and some of the birds that compete for their nest boxes, followed by a hike in search of bluebirds. Registration required.

Monstrous Sunday

Discovery Center Museum | Rockford, Ill.

Come dressed as or bring your favorite monster for this mythical magical romp. Explore everyday physics principles that demystify movie magic. Plus, manufacture monstrous treats and create creature crafts.

Secrets of the Salamander

Rush Creek Conservation Area | Harvard, Ill.

How do they survive and where do they live? These questions and more will be answered as we hike through the woods. Dress for the weather and be prepared to hike and get dirty.

El Dia de los Ninos/El Dia de los Libros

Waukegan Public Library | Waukegan, Ill.

Family festival featuring games and activities from classic and contemporary children’s books. Kids can practice for the hunger games with archery, darts, and knot tying, hunt for clues around the library like Nancy Drew, make a mask of one of the characters in Winnie the Pooh, and toss rings on Pinocchio’s growing nose. Families will also have a chance to explore the Early Learning Center Transportation exhibit and go for a ride in a caboose, fly a plane, and ride a bike. Kirby the Kangaroo, the Great Lakes Credit Union's mascot, will greet children along with Shrek and other well-known book characters. Each family will sample fresh made ice cream from La Michoacana Ice Cream parlor and take home free books.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Gurnee Mills Mall | Gurnee, Ill.

Attendees will enjoy food samplings, face painting, balloon twisting, giveaways and live musical performances from local Latino artists, including Mariachi Music, Los Panchis, Banda Tierra Nueva and Hershey y Su Norteño Banda.

Hold a Baby Lamb

Enjoy Pioneer Farm | Hampshire, Ill.

Farm is open weekends in March, April and May for holding the baby lambs, goats, chicks, piglet and feeding the calf. Watch the sheep shearing. Enjoy the farm experience. Don't forget your camera.

When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
