Active at the Arb

The Morton Arboretum | Lisle, Ill.

A day of outdoor activities, featuring an aerial yoga demonstration, group walks and runs, bike riding and hikes to learn about the edible plants that grow at the Arboretum. Participate in a stroller fitness demonstration and let the kids join the fun with a Tree Pose Yoga program in the Children’s Garden.

When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Amazing Amphibians

Get to know a few of the museum's amphibians while learning about what makes an amphibian unique. Students observe live animals and participate in a hands-on activity.

Grand Opening Event of Vertical Endeavors- Glendale Heights

Vertical Endeavors | Warrenville, Ill.

At 44,000 square feet, Vertical Endeavors Glendale Heights will be the largest indoor climbing facility in the U.S. Includes 3,500 square feet of bouldering surface, 59 top ropes, 30 auto belays and 93 lead/top rope routes totaling more than 180 anchors for climbing. Enjoy Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, free climbing, meet & greets with professional climbers, food from Best Truckin’ BBQ; climbing demos, lessons, clinics and more.

Construction Fundraiser For the Love of Lee

St. Leonard School | Berwyn, Ill.

Family event with food, beer, games, magician, music, silent auction and raffles. Proceeds go toward a 9-year-old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to have a handicap accessible bathroom, bedroom and ceiling lift.

Sox vs. Cubs: The Chicago Civil Wars

Elmhurst Historical Museum | Elmhurst, Ill.

Exhibit highlights the longtime rivalry between the fans of these two storied teams. This cultural history exposé covers all the bases of the crosstown rivalry to examine concepts of loyalty and fandom through videos of each team’s colorful supporters; interviews with former players, sports journalists and broadcasters; and fan souvenirs and ephemera.

Shapes of Nature

Use shape viewers to search for triangle trees, heart shaped leaves, and square stems, and discover the kind of nature scene collage can you make using basic shapes.

Outdoor Art

The Morton Arboretum | Lisle, Ill.

Famous artists Monet, van Gogh and Georgia O'Keefe were all inspired by nature.  Look at pictures of famous nature art, and make your own water-lily masterpiece to take home.

Theatre-Hikes

The Morton Arboretum | Lisle, Ill.

In August, follow a day in the life of Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Low-impact hikes suitable for strollers, walkers and wheelchairs take place on Aug. 3. Each performance lasts approximately three hours. Wear comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and bring a chair or blanket, water bottle and insect repellent.

When: 1-3:30 p.m. weekends
