The Village of Long Grove is transformed in to a chocolate lover's paradise. Enjoy live music, food and wine pairings and great children's activities, including rides for all ages, rock climbing, obstacle courses, pony and kiddie rides.

Art in the Park

Art in the Park in Elmhurst | Elmhurst, Ill.

A show of fine arts and crafts. Enjoy an array of other activities including kids' art activities, School of Rock with performances by local high school musicians, a food vendor court, and gourmet food gift section. Microsoft will be offering a fun kid's activity along with Mariano's giveaways. Wilder Mansion will be open for coffee, pastries, and lunch provided by Café Amano on both days.

Barrington Area KidFest

Barrington, Ill.

A day-long event that combines the Community Kite Fly and Family Nature Fest. Several organizations host outdoor educational activities for all ages. Children can learn about nature while having fun through activities such as constructing bird houses, tree-climbing, exploring insect and animal habitats, and creating nature note cards. Other activities include archery, slack-lining, and lessons on bike safety.

When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events provides free kits for kids to design and create their own kite. There will also be crafts and face painting.

Froggy Picnic

Morton Arboretum | Lisle, Ill.

Visit the frogs near their homes, view live tadpoles, learn to recognize different frog calls and make some froggy music of your own. A picnic lunch will be included, and picnic blankets are welcome.

Campout at Emily Oaks

Emily Oaks Nature Center | Skokie, Ill.

Roast marshmallows and sing songs around a campfire, enjoy a breakfast cooked outdoors, and participate in other fun activities. A personal supply list will be e-mailed to you prior to the campout. Tents, cooking equipment, and food provided. Adults are required to register.

When: 6:30 p.m.-10 a.m.
Cost: $31, $25 resident

Spring Astronomy

Heller Nature Center | Highland Park, Ill.

See the moon, Jupiter and Saturn through a telescope. Kids must be accompanied by a participating adult. This program will be cancelled if it is cloudy.

Nature Navigators: Butterflies and Moths

Lake View Nature Center | Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.

Kids experience the world of butterflies and moths through activities and an art project. Review metamorphosis and learn how these winged creatures use their senses to find food and avoid predators. Dress for a nature hike.

When: 1-4 p.m.

Fairy Festival

Pilcher Park Nature Center | Joliet, Ill.

Enjoy fairy flower walks, discover fairy food, make enchanted crafts and be entertained by winged hostesses. Come dressed in wings, make a wand, learn a few magic words and indulge your inner child.

When: 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
