Campout at Emily Oaks

Roast marshmallows and sing songs around a campfire, enjoy a breakfast cooked outdoors, and participate in other fun activities. A personal supply list will be e-mailed to you prior to the campout. Tents, cooking equipment, and food provided. Adults are required to register.

Wild Edibles Science Night

Try beautiful and tasty flower petals, grind your own cricket flour, snack on crunchy crawlies, plus learn about what is benign and what to avoid. Stations will be set up around the first floor of the museum for people to participate in delicious activities.

Learn about the habits of local nocturnal animals while hiking the trails by starlight and testing nocturnal senses along the way.

The Art of Dr. Seuss

Water Tower Place | Chicago, Ill.

The Art of Dr. Seuss has installed sculptures of everyone from the wacky Cat in the Hat to the steadfast Horton and persistent Sam I Am. For children and nostalgic adults, there is a scavenger hunt involving the bronze sculptures, which also include the Grinch, Yertle the Turtle and the Lorax. A photo hunt clue accompanies each sculpture, and guests are invited to share photos on Instagram (@drseussgallerychicago #DRSEUSSART) to win prizes. Runs through May 5.

Eggs to Chicks

Kohl Children's Museum | Glenview, Ill.

The exhibit features the rare Black Java and White Java strains of chicken, which were an endangered species less than a decade ago. Includes a special child-height egg incubator, hatchery unit and a pen for newborn chicks. Runs from March 18-June 16.
