The Art Walk showcases the works of talented professional and student artists in restaurants and businesses in downtown Skokie. Live activities held noon-5 p.m. May 18. Visitors are invited to pick up an Art Walk map; meet the artists; listen to roaming musicians; enjoy plein air artists paint outdoors; hear jazz musicians play in Memorial Park; and attend Open Mic Performances at Gorilla Tango/Skokie Theatre. Kids 3-16 can create their own art at three locations: Bughouse Studio, Lincoln Terrace Art Studio & Gallery and Mosaic Montessori/Early Childhood.

New exhibit showcases 50 rare and unique objects from the Sterling Morton Library's collections. The artifacts include a collection of butterflies that is more than 100 years old, an Eskimo bone carving, original woodblocks, and metal sculptures. Explore a modern cabinet of curiosities, with drawers that pull out and doors that open to reveal objects and interactive games, share your vision of a library in 50 years, and take part in a library-wide scavenger hunt.

David Rogers’ Big Bugs| Lisle |

Kids become bug detectives as they explore the exhibit of huge bug sculptures built using natural materials including trees, dried branches, roots and green saplings. On display will be an over-sized bee hive, lady bug, assassin bug, damsel fly, spider, daddy long legs, praying mantis, dragon fly, grasshopper and three ants. Kids receive a free bug detective guide, helping them uncover the truth about bugs. Plus, they can take part in daily events to learn more about bugs, plus an edible insects program for the whole family.

Enter a tree house village filled with adventure and imagination. Play, make believe, and become part of the trees' ever-changing tale. The exhibition is comprised of six fun-filled, educational tree houses, aimed at kids 2-10.

The Model Railroad Garden delights visitors of all ages with the sights and sounds of garden-scale trains traversing bridges and trestles, past miniature scenes of America's best-loved landmarks and beautiful gardens planted to scale.

Features supersized animatronic dinosaurs, including
favorites like Stegosaurus and Triceratops, as well as obscure
dinosaur species with unusual characteristics, like feathers.
Shantungosaurus-the largest dinosaur to walk on two legs-stands at
more than 20 feet tall and 50 feet long in Roosevelt Fountain, and
a tented showcase highlights the most recent paleontological
findings that birds evolved from dinosaurs. In addition, guests
will learn how dinosaurs are relevant to today's world and how
changes in climate may have led to their extinction, plus about
prehistoric flowers and plants .

A new music and performance series for the stroller set parents and their pre-kindergarten children. Performances are on alternate Fridays at 10 a.m. beginning Feb. 1. Parents and young children can enjoy Chicago's best music, dance and theater in a kid-friendly setting. Kids can sit on the floor, walk around, meet the artists and sometimes play with instruments and puppets. Parents are welcome to bring snacks and juiceboxes. The Juicebox series runs year-round.
