Get out and play

Use your imagination and climb into the world of your favorite dog at the“Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog” exhibit at the Kohl Children’s Museum, 2100 Patriot Blvd., in Glenview, this weekend. You and your family will have the opportunity to join the book’s well-known characters on Birdwell Island and play inside Clifford’s doghouse.

The exhibit was designed to give kids a“paws-on” adventure as they learn about“Clifford’s Big Ideas” or 10 life lessons: share, play fair, have respect, work together, be responsible, be truthful, be kind, believe in yourself, be a good friend and help others.

A few of the activities include sliding down the 9-foot-high Clifford sculpture, filling his big dog bowl with bones using a conveyor belt and steering the ferry to Birdwell Island. You can also visit the Howard’s House, and take the stage with Clifford and his pals in the backyard theater. Smaller children will enjoy visiting Cleo’s Backyard, which was designed especially for toddlers with a soft floor and tot-friendly games.

“Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog” runs through May 12. The museum is open 9:30 a.m.-noon Monday, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7.50, $6.50 for seniors, free kids under 1. For more information, call (847) 832-6600 or visit the Web site at www.kohlchildrensmuseum.org.
