Chicago fashion tips: When in doubt, stylish moms wear black

We’ve all done it at least once, some more often than others; stood in front of our closet and ask ourselves the perpetual question:

What am I going to wear today?!

For those of you who are systematic in your ways and strategically plan in advance your outfits for the following day, we envy you.

But, for those of us who like to live dangerously, and opt to stressfully try on a myriad of different looks 20 minutes before heading out the door, this bit of information I’m about to share is for you. Systematic ones, feel free to continue to read, you may learn something new.

The answer to the question posed above is quite simple. When in doubt wear black.

Black is often described as boring and lacking hue /brightness and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

For one, it works wonders for everyone regardless of shape, skin tone and age.

It is also known for its slimming powers due to the color’s inability to reflect light, hence hiding shadows and unwanted bulges.

 Yes, unwanted bulges!

As divine as the benefits of black sound, there are a few DOs and DON’Ts that are imperative in order for you to fully enjoy the black experience.

Take notes and tell your friends, they'll thank you later.

DO wear black from head to toe, it doubles its slimming powers!

DO accessorize with bold jewelry. A statement necklace will add that little je ne sais quoi to your look.

DO wear it during the day. That little black dress can be worn at the office. Throw a blazer on top and voila, you’re ready for your 9-5.

DO keep it classy. Modesty goes a long way.

DON’T wear it everyday. What’s that saying?! Ahhhh yes, everything in moderation.

DON’T worry about matching. The color comes in different shades and it’s ok to wear them together. Try mixing textures too. Cotton and silk anyone?!

DON’T be afraid to wear it during warmer months. Nothing says summer like a nice décolleté.

And last but surely not least,

DON’T worry about it going out of style! It never will, I promise!
